Our Shooting Sports Program provides
an opportunity to learn gun safety, participate in
shooting sports activities, learn a new discipline
or hone shooting skills. Scouts of all ages find shooting
sports a challenge regardless of skill level. BSA certified
instructors require strict adherence to safety rules
which provides a safe place for Scouts to experience
this always popular program. Participants are required
to wear eye and ear protection at all times while firing
at the range.
Giving scouts an appreciation
for shooting techniques, the shooting sports area
teaches scouts how to become good marksmen while
learning proper safety techniques.
General: Shooting sports
are extremely popular with Scouts of all ages.
Although one of the safest sports that Scouts can
enjoy, they potentially can be dangerous. It is
the Council’s goal to provide exposure to
the shootings sports in a safe, fun and educational
way. Marksmanship is a valued skill, but gun safety
is a learned attitude which is the only goal
for operating our ranges.
In addition to the time available for
work on merit badge requirements, free time and evening
troop time provides additional access to the Shooting
Sports Program.
