Camp Behavior Policy: A popular Scoutmaster's
Minute deals with how a camp is just like a city. Cities
have roads, camps have trails. Cities have homes, camps
have tents. A city has a lot of laws, at Camp Mensinger
we have just one, the Scout Law. The 12 points of the
Scout Law guides the behavior of all campers and staff.
At Camp Mensinger we cannot and will
not tolerate behaviors that do not meet the
standards set forth in the Scout Law. We ask for your
cooperation and understanding in helping us maintain
this high standard of personal behavior. We can do no
less.
Permission to Leave Early: Youth and
adult leaders must notify the Camp Director if they are
going to leave camp early. Any youth leaving the camp
early must have the “Permission to Leave Early” form
completed and signed by a parent or guardian. A unit
leader and Camp Director must also sign the “Permission
to Leave Early” form acknowledging they are aware
this camper is leaving camp.
Adult Leadership: It is the policy
of the Boy Scouts of America that two registered adult
leaders, or one adult leader and one parent or guardian
of a participating youth are required to be present for
all units outings. Leaders may rotate in and out of camp
during the week as long a "two deep leadership" is
always maintained in the unit. Units experiencing difficulty
meeting the “two deep leadership” requirement
may choose to share a campsite with another unit.
Fire
Safety: Fires are permitted only in the campfire
ring in the troop campsite and should never be left
unattended. Extreme caution must be taken whenever
an open flame is involved. Proper means of extinguishing
fires should be on hand at all times. In case of extreme
fire danger the California Department of Forestry may
temporarily suspend our campfire permit.
Wildfires in camp should be reported directly to the
camp office so that an alarm may be sounded. A fire drill
will take place within your first 24 hours at camp. Liquid
or propane fueled stoves or lanterns are to be operated
only under direct adult supervision. Any large quantity
of fuel must be stored with the Camp Ranger.
Firearms: Personal firearms and ammunition
are prohibited in camp. BSA national standards, as well
as insurance requirements, prohibit their presence on
the property. They may not be used on our ranges in camp.
Due to new regulations and an extension of state law,
possession personal archery equipment in camp is also
not allowed.
Fireworks: Fireworks of any sort are
illegal and strictly prohibited in camp. Possession of
fireworks will be grounds for immediate dismissal from
camp property and could result in criminal prosecution.
Alcoholic Beverages: The National Council,
BSA prohibits the use of alcoholic beverages
and controlled substances at encampments or activities
on property owned and/or operated by the BSA or at any
activity involving the participation of youth members.
Smoking: Camp
Mensinger is a non-smoking facility. To promote Scouting’s
aim of physical fitness among its participants as well
as to insure the protection and safe use of council properties,
the Greater Yosemite Council requires all adult leaders
who smoke cigarettes or pipes to do so only in
designated smoking areas. Smokers are required to set
the proper example by refraining from smoking in the
presence of Scouts. The camp administration will inform
you where the designated smoking areas are located in
camp.
Camp Tools & Equipment: A limited
number of tools & equipment (hammers, saws, picks,
rope, axes, hatchets, etc.) are available through the
commissary for your units to check out and use. Each
unit is responsible for taking care of the camp’s
tools or equipment they check out from the commissary.
In the event the tools or equipment are lost or damaged,
the unit responsible must pay to replace the tools before
leaving camp. The fee for lost or damaged tools will
be based on the actual replacement value.
